Funny Girls Tour Review

Funny Girls Tour 2020

I had the privilege to be invited to the opening night of the first Funny Girls tour in 25 years. The opening night was at the lovely and quaint Epstein Theatre. I have performed at this theatre, and the staff as always were friendly and helpful as I remembered.

Where do I start? Some may worry that the Funny Girls Show might lose some of its magic outside of its stunning and majestic home in Blackpool. Fear not, it was just as spectacular as I've seen on my many visits to the home of Funny Girls.

The first thing that struck me was the energy from all of the cast. It was positively electric, you could see from the start how much they were enjoying the show. As always the costumes were amazing, thanks to the handy work of the fabulous costume department.

The male dancers work really well together and they look like they are having fun with the ladies. Then comes the fabulous Betty Legs Diamond. I had the pleasure of interviewing Simon, aka Betty at Funny Girls recently. If you could hear his amazing career history in entertainment, like me you would want to sit and chat for hours. Betty is a consummate professional and this shows in her performance. One thing I enjoyed as did the audience was her comedy timing along with facial expressions. The dance routines and flexibility of Betty's legs would bring tears to many a woman's and men's eyes.

I would give this 5 stars, it is great that people who may not get the chance to see them in Blackpool will now have an opportunity to see the legendary Funny Girls closer to their home towns.

I had the pleasure of chatting with founder Basil Newby and the amazing Geoffrey Hindmarsh, I was told a secret that is great news for the many fans. Sadly I can't share it yet, but follow Funny Girls on social media and you'll be first to know.

The show ended with a well deserved standing ovation, something I think they will enjoy on every night of this historic tour. Make sure you're a part of it. One lady said to me last night 'I didn't want it to end'. Testament to the amazing team that are Funny Girls.
